About the schemes: Mahatma Gandhi NREGA is an Act that provides at least one hundred days of guaranteed wage employment in every financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work, resulting in the creation of productive assets of prescribed quality and durability.
Required Eligibility for applying the schemes: Any person who is above the age of 18 and resides in rural areas is entitled to apply for work.
Method of applying for the scheme: Any Indian citizen above the age of 18 years and residing in a rural area can apply for the NREGA scheme. A job card is a key document that records workers’ entitlements under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS. It legally empowers the registered household to apply for work. New Job cards will be provided to rural households who want to work under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS. New names will be entered on the existing Job cards in case of new members attaining adulthood, new additions in the households due to marriage, etc. To apply for the NREGA job card, applicants need to submit the application form to the Gram Panchayat Office along with the necessary required documents.
The Ministry, under MGNREGA, receives complaints of irregularities, non-availability of work etc., since the responsibility of implementation of MGNREGA is vested with the State Governments/UTs, all complaints received in the Ministry are forwarded to the concerned State Governments/UTs for taking appropriate action including investigation, as per law. Detailed instructions by way of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for complaint redressal have also been issued to all States/UTs. States have formulated Grievance Redressal Rules for dealing with complaints. Steps have been taken to strengthen social audit units and the appointment of Ombudsmen in the States. State-specific reviews of States are also undertaken from time to time. Officers of the Ministry and National Level Monitors also visit various districts to oversee the performance of MGNREGA. Otherwise, any complainant can submit their grievances through written/e-mail directly to the Gram Panchayat, Block Development Officer, SDOs, DNO, or District Magistrates.
