About the Block: Bagnan II development block is an administrative division in Uluberia subdivision of Howrah district in West Bengal with a rich heritage to boast of, the Howrah district was the erstwhile place of the kingdom of Bhurshut of the Bengals. Bagnan police station serves this block. It is situated between two rivers, theDamodar and the Rupnarayan. Bagnan-ii Block is bounded by by Bagnan-i Block towards North, Shyampur-ii Block towards South, Kolaghat Block towards west, Uluberia-I Block towards East. Headquarters of this block is at Gunandapur near Antila. Gram panchayats of Bagnan II block are: Antila, Bantul- Baidyanathpur, Chandrabhag, Halyan, Mugkalyan Benapur, Orphooli and Saratchandra. Floriculture is the main source of income in the primary sector. A part of the Darat Chandra Gram Panchayat has been industrialized and urbanization occurs in the surrounding areas. The famous heritage “Sarat Chandra Kuthi” The two storied Burmese style house was the house of the great Bengali Novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay is located in Samtaber (Samta) under this Block.
