About the Block:
The development block of Amta-II is comprised of 14 Gram Panchayats of which three are riverine. The entire area falls under two police stations of Amta and Jaypur. The Block office is at Jaypur Fakirdas. The Sub-Division office is located at Uluberia. Agriculture is the primary occupation of the people of Amta-II. Multiple cropping is done with a good variety of vegetables coming up in winter. Allied activities like dairy farming and cattle rearing goes on in two gram panchayats of the block. Small Scale Industries in Betai Bandar is involved in making of Swing Machine parts and Jute Processing Machinery parts. Binla Krishnabati Gram Panchayat is involved in idol-making. The place is rich in bio-diversity. Three Gram Panchayats are abode to the fishing cat(Baghrole) which exists in Kharibon. However, the block is flood prone and is annually inundated. As the block is at a low gradient the water comes to stay, which is damaging to the crops and live stocks. The people have learnt to face hardship and take everything in their stride.
